Green Earth offers hiking and outdoor recreation at six sites across Carbondale IL.  All of our properties are open to the public during daylight hours.  Visit our Nature Preserves page to learn more about our properties, and find a trail near you!

We depend on our local community for not only financial support, but also hands-on help in land management, trail maintenance, community outreach, hosting school field trips, and community educational events.  Want to be a part of GE?  Visit our Support page or Volunteer page to learn how.

  1. Explore
    We have over nine miles of hiking trails right here in Carbondale. Off-trail exploration is encouraged, so feel free to let your children (or inner child!) climb trees, splash in creeks, follow deer trails, etc. But please take only memories & leave only foot prints. Visit our Nature Preserve page to learn more.
  2. Volunteer
    We rely entirely on volunteer labor to maintain our trails and manage our properties. We meet the third Saturday of each month, as well as various special project dates throughout the year. Please visit the Volunteer Page to learn how you can get involved today.
  3. Donate
    We depend heavily on donations to cover operational expenses such equipping our volunteers (tools, gloves, equipment, & herbicide) to paying for technology needs (like this web site) and everything in between. Please visit the Support GE Page to make a gift today.
